Numerical modeling of current-induced scour around multi-wall foundation using large-eddy simulation

摘要: Scouring is one of the primary triggers of failure for bridges across rivers or seas. However, research concerning the scour mechanism of multi-wall foundations (MWFs) remains scarce, hindering the further application of MWFs. In this study, for the first time, the scouring effect caused by unidirectional flow around MWFs was examined numerically using FLOW-3D involving a large-eddy simulation. Initially, the applicability of the scouring model and input parameters was validated using a case study based on published measured data. Subsequently, the scouring effects of four MWFs with different wall arrangements and inflow angles, including the flow field analysis and scour pit and depth, were investigated thoroughly. It was found that the maximum scour depth of MWFs with an inflow angle of 0° was smaller than that of those with an inflow angle of 45°, regardless of the wall arrangement. Meanwhile, changing the inflow angle significantly affects the scour characteristics of MWFs arranged in parallel. In practical engineering, MWFs arranged in parallel are preferred considering the need for scouring resistance. However, a comparative analysis should be performed to consider comprehensively whether to adopt the form of a round wall arrangement when the inflow angle is not 0° or the inflow direction is changeable.

Large eddy simulation of a 660 MW utility boiler under variable load conditions

摘要: Large eddy simulation (LES) has become a promising tool for pulverized coal combustion with the development of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technologies in recent years. LES can better capture the unsteady features and turbulent structures of coal jet flame than Reynolds averaged Navier Stokes (RANS). The coal-fired power plants in China are now required to be operated in a wide load range and quickly respond to the electric grid. The boiler performance of variable loads should be evaluated in terms of flow, heat transfer, and combustion processes. In this paper, LES was applied to simulate a 660 MW ultra-supercritical boiler under BMCR (boiler maximum continue rate), 75%THA-100, and 50%THA-100 conditions. The predicted gas velocities agree well with the thermal calculation and the temperature error is less than 130 K. The simulation results show that the operation load has significant effects on the boiler performance. It is also proved that LES can provide guidance for the design and operation of advanced coal-fired boilers.

Large eddy simulation of turbulent buffet forces in flow induced vibration

摘要: The pressure pulse filter and Smagorinsky sub-grid stress model of the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) are introduced. The fluid field in the annular plenum between the pressure vessel and the core barrel of the1:5 model in the second phase of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant is simulated, and the distribution of the total pressure in the space and time domains is obtained. The results show that the Power Spectrum Density (PSD) of LES from the calculation and the test are in the same quantity order. Thus, the pressure of LES can be a load to stimulate the barrel vibration.

建筑物内火旋风中心飘移的探讨与研究

摘要:

火旋风是火灾中一种较为特殊的火行为,是火灾安全研究的一个重要内容。针对建筑物内火旋风的行为进行研究,提出了一种用于描述和表征建筑物内火旋风中心飘移的分析方法。结合此方法,应用大涡模拟技术对火旋风中心飘移现象进行了数值模拟研究,得到了火旋风中心飘移的平均角速度、温度峰值、高温中心位置等重要参数。

Numerical simulation of compaction parameters for sand-filled embankment using large thickness sand filling

摘要: The study uses the finite element method to simulate a new technique of highway sand embankment filling in Jianghan Plain district, which can raise the thickness of sand-filled layer from 30 cm to 70 cm and can significantly shorten the construction period based on the guarantee of sand embankment construction quality. After simulating the three compacting proposals carried out on the field test, the study uses COMSOL software to research on the compacting effects of sand-filled layers in larger thicknesses by 22 ton vibratory roller alone, and then to investigate the steady compacting effect of 12 ton vibratory roller. The simulation results indicate that the sand-filled layer thickness of 70 cm is suitable for the new sand filling technique, and the sand-filled embankment project with tight construction period is suggested to choose the 12 ton vibration roller for steady compaction.

Coupling analysis of passenger and train flows for a large-scale urban rail transit system

摘要: Coupling analysis of passenger and train flows is an important approach in evaluating and optimizing the operation efficiency of large-scale urban rail transit (URT) systems. This study proposes a passenger–train interaction simulation approach to determine the coupling relationship between passenger and train flows. On the bases of time-varying origin–destination demand, train timetable, and network topology, the proposed approach can restore passenger behaviors in URT systems. Upstream priority, queuing process with first-in-first-serve principle, and capacity constraints are considered in the proposed simulation mechanism. This approach can also obtain each passenger’s complete travel chain, which can be used to analyze (including but not limited to) various indicators discussed in this research to effectively support train schedule optimization and capacity evaluation for urban rail managers. Lastly, the proposed model and its potential application are demonstrated via numerical experiments using real-world data from the Beijing URT system (i.e., rail network with the world’s highest passenger ridership).

Experimental study on bubble behavior and CFD simulation of large-scale slurry bubble column reactor

摘要: Slurry bubble column reactors (SBCR) is a three-phase fluidized reactor with outstanding advantages compared with other reactors and is difficult to scale-up due to lack of information on hydrodynamics and mass transfer over a wide range of operating conditions of commercial interest. In this paper, an experiment was conducted to investigate the bubble behavior in SBCR with a height of 5600 mm and an interior diameter of 480 mm. Bubble rise velocity, bubble diameter, and gas holdup in different radial and axial positions are measured in SBCR using four-channel conductivity probe. Tap water, air, and glass beads (mean diameter 75–150 μm) are used as liquid, gas, and solid phases, respectively. It shows that hydrodynamic parameters have good regularity in SBCR. Moreover, a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package, Fluent, was used to simulate the process in SBCR. The simulations were carried out using axi-symmetric 2-D grids. Data obtained from experiment and CFD simulation are compared, and results show that the tendency of simulation is almost uniform with the experiment, which can help to obtain further understanding about multiphase flow process and establish a model about the synthesis of alcohol ether fuel in SBCR.

Resistance of large caisson in floating transport considering the influence of air

摘要: This paper deals with the floating resistance of super large caisson by numerical simulation, and the influence of air resistance on the caisson, which is often ignored by previous researchers, is considered. The floating caisson of Taizhou Highway Bridge’s middle tower pier is investigated, and the software package FLUENT is used to simulate the floating process of large-scale rounded rectangular steel caisson. This simulation adopts the volume of fluid (VOF) model with water-air two-phase flow, which can take both the hydraulic resistance and air resistance into account. Subsequently, the analyses on hydraulic resistance and air resistance under different working conditions, such as different flow velocities and different draughts of water are performed, and the results are compared with those calculated by related empirical formula. The comparison shows that the air resistance takes up notable portion in the total resistance on the floating caisson, and the effect of air resistance on the safety of caisson should be paid sufficient attention to rather than be ignored.

Eddy current measurement of the thickness of top Cu film of the multilayer interconnects in the integrated

This paper proposes a new eddy current method, named equivalent unit method (EUM), for the thickness measurement of the top copper film of multilayer interconnects in the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process, which is an important step in the integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing. The influence of the underneath circuit layers on the eddy current is modeled and treated as an equivalent film thickness. By subtracting this equivalent film component, the accuracy of the thickness measurement of the top copper layer with an eddy current sensor is improved and the absolute error is 3 nm for sampler measurement.

Molecular dynamics study of water diffusion in an amphiphilic block copolymer with large difference in

摘要: Isothermal-isobaric molecular dynamics simulation was used to study the diffusion mechanism of water in polyurethane- -poly( -isopropyl acrylamide) (PU- -PNIPAm) with a hydrophobic PU/hydrophilic PNIPAm mass ratio of 1.4 to 1 at 298 K and 450 K. Here, the experimental glass transition temperature ( ) of PU is 243 K while that of PNIPAm is 383 K. Different amounts of water up to 15 wt-% were added to PU- -PNIPAm. We were able to reproduce the specific volumes and glass transition temperatures (250 K and 390 K) of PU- -PNIPAm. The computed self-diffusion coefficient of water increased exponentially with increasing water concentration at both temperatures (i.e., following the free volume model of Fujita). It suggested that water diffusion in PU- -PNIPAm depends only on its fractional free volume despite the free volume inhomogeneity. It is noted that at 298 K, PU is rubbery while PNIPAm is glassy. Regardless of temperature, radial distribution functions showed that water formed clusters with sizes in the range of 0.2–0.4 nm in PU- -PNIPAm. At low water concentrations, more clusters were found in the PU domain but at high water concentrations, more in the PNIPAm domain. It is believed that water molecules diffuse as clusters rather than as individual molecules.

大跨度双连拱公路隧道数值模拟与围岩稳定分析

摘要:

公路连拱隧道是近二三十年来随着高等级公路建设发展而出现的一种隧道结构形式,具有较好的适用性和优越性,尤其适用于用地受限、山区地形复杂、道路展线困难等情况。然而,连拱隧道相对于分离隧道,施工中必然存在对围岩的多次扰动,施工难度较大。在浅埋、围岩软弱、岩溶等复杂地质条件下,这类隧道在不同施工阶段围岩的稳定性问题备受关注。以沪蓉西高速公路恩施至利川段白果坝隧道为背景,结合现场施工,利用三维弹塑性分析程序MIDAS-GTS对白果坝隧道进行了数值模拟研究,对围岩力学性状变化进行了分析,得到了隧道开挖施工中围岩的应力变化规律,针对薄弱部位提出了具体措施。

大型超市安全疏散设计的初步研究

根据某大型超市的建筑设计方案以及人员分布情况,针对该超市各防火分区之间疏散楼梯分布不均 匀的问题,提出2种改进设计方案。一种是改进防火分区设置,在相邻防火分区之间设置共用楼梯,使得防火分区的疏散宽度分布更均匀,另一种是缩小相关防火分区的面积从而增加一个防火分区。采用EVACNET4进行计算机模拟,得到了3种疏散场景下人员疏散的时间。计算结果表明,当防火分区面积比较大时,疏散楼梯在防火分区四周均匀分布有利于人员疏散;共用楼梯的设置,既有利于人员疏散,又可以提高楼梯的利用率;适当减小防火分区的面积可以

Numerical simulation of sudden-expansion two-phase flows with two-scale second-order moment particle

摘要: A two-scale second-order moment particle turbulence model is developed, based on the concept of particle large-scale fluctuation due to turbulence and particle small-scale fluctuation due to collision. The model is employed to simulate gas-particle flows in a sudden-expansion chamber. Simulation results are compared with the experimental results and with those obtained by the single-scale second-order moment two-phase turbulence model. It is shown that the two-scale model is with higher calculating accuracy than the single-scale model.
